2008 PICNIC SIXTH ANNUAL 'A GATHERING OF "THE CROWD" & FRIENDS' PICNIC - SUNDAY, AUGUST 3, 2008 Our Sixth Annnual 'A Gathering of "The Crowd" and Friends Picnic' will be held in conjunction with the 20th Annual 'Taste in San Pedro' event on Sunday, August 3 at Pt. Fermin Park.   We anticipate occupying one-half of an information booth (close to the entrance), sponsored by Councilwoman Janice Hahn to provide information, share yearbooks and talk with people.   The picnic is always scheduled on the Sunday after one of the classes of the 1970-1975 has their reunion on the preceding Saturday. This year the Ke-Alians, Class of 1973 holds its 35-year reunion on Saturday August 2, 2008, so the picnic is being held on Sunday August 3, 2008. You may be wondering why "The Crowd" appears as it does. Between September, 1971 and June, 1972, the largest student body population at the then three year S.P.H.S. attended the campus. The classes of 1972, 1973, and 1974 will forever and always be the three largest graduating classes EVER at San Pedro High School. The Mystics, Class of 1972 had 1,053 graduates. The Ke-Alians, Class of 1973 had 958 graduates. The Prometheans, Class of 1974 had 948 graduates. Combined, the number of students crowding the halls of a school site that was smaller in size than it is today, held 2,959 students. "The Crowd" are those alumni that constituted the 2,959 member student body. Our friends are everyone else who were on either side of each of those classes and all the other classes of the earlier and later 1970's, and all others. Having the picnic inside the area of Taste in San Pedro is a first for our little picnic. We will get to find out what happens. Admission to 'Taste in San Pedro' is generally $10 for adults, although there are special packages available (see below) plus the cost of 'Taste Tickets' ($1 for each ticket) to purchase food and beverages in the event:   Discount “Packs” •   “Couple Pack” - $30.00 (includes admission for 2 adults and 14 Taste Tickets) •   “Senior (55+) / Military Couple Pack” - $25.00 (includes admission for 2 adults and 18 Taste Tickets) •   “Family Pack” - $40.00 (includes admission for 2 adults + 1 child and 20 Taste Tickets), $4.00 for each additional child purchased with this package. •   “Military Family Pack” - $35.00 (includes admission for 2 adults + 1 child and 25 Taste Tickets), $4.00 for each additional child purchased with this package. “Taste Tickets” Food, drink and other Taste products are purchased with “Taste Tickets” which cost $1.00 each. Food and drink items will range from one to four tickets. The 'Taste' venue opens at 11 a.m. on Sunday and closes at 7 p.m.  There are multiple entertainment groups scheduled to provide music during Sunday's event, including: 11:15 - 12:30 Old School R&B from the Cynthia Manley Band 12:30 - 1:45 Blues, R&B, and Jazz from The Chuck Alvarez Band 1:45 - 3:00 Festive Funk, and Old School Soul from Soul Shot 3:00 - 4:15 Classic Rock and Oldies from 110 South 4:15 - 5:30 Roots & Rockabilly from Seatbelt & The Pecking Order 5:30 - 6:45 70’s Classics to Modern Day Hits from Blender Getting to The “Taste“ Take the Harbor Freeway (110) South to San Pedro until the freeway ends. Turn left onto South Gaffey Street and follow it to Angel’s Gate Park at 3601 S. Gaffey Street (near the intersection with Paseo Del Mar). The entrance to Point Fermin Park is across from Angel’s Gate Park. Ample Free Parking and Shuttle Service is available from Angel’s Gate Park and the lot at 22nd and Miner Streets. Limited parking is available along Paseo Del Mar, though these spaces go early.
